The Ferret That Ran is exclusive to The Inn on the Moor Hotel. A single origin Brazilian coffee that boast sumptuous milk chocolate and praline flavours.
The Story
“In the early 1900’s Great Great Grandad William travelled from Masham on a horse and cart with his wife and children Max, Willis and Nora. Resting for a moment at Sutton Bank in Thirsk, their pet ferret escaped. Continuing their adventures on their own they settled in Bransdale where Great Grandad Max turned his hand to Rabbit Catching as a way to make his wage, finally affording to buy sheep of his own. After moving to Greenlands in Goathland many years later, our Grandad Jim was born. The farming lifestyle continued as it does to this day.``
we found the hotel staff very pleasant, helpful and accommodating when checking in, we were shown to our very spacious and modern room with fantastic views from the Water Ark room, we booked an evening meal and the menu choice is overwhelming with what to choose, I ordered the Breaded Brie to start with and my wife chose the terrain, they were both delicious and a very ample portion, I chose the Lamb for the main and Chicken Balti was the other main meal, after watching the other main meals being served to the other dinners we did not know if we had made the best choice as they looked very good indeed, but to our delight we were not disappointed our mains we of very substantial portions and very well presented and also very tasty, we had no room for the desserts. The bar is a very friendly atmosphere and adequately stocked and Jack the bar man (kept in check by Nicola) does a very excellent service whether it be alcohol or coffee that he is serving. The breakfast choice is also very adequate catering for all different tastes, I chose the full English (and it is full) and I have to say the eggs were cooked to perfection. We have just finished a week staying at Inn on the Moor. What a wonderful place to spend some time as a couple. Our room was well appointed, the bed extremely comfortable and the shower had excellent pressure. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed. It made a big difference as unfortunately on the way to Goathland we had a car accident - luckily no real injuries apart from seat belt bruising - and when we told Nicola she was genuinely concerned and asking if there was anything they could do to help. Over the first few days, several staff checked in with us to see that we were OK. We had not intended to have both breakfast and dinner at the Hotel, but found ourselves booking in every night as you couldn't fault the food, or the service. The daily specials changed frequently and were always well presented and tasty and the regular menu was extensive and was bound to be able to satisfy anyone's dining wishes. We loved the way the bar, restaurant and lounge areas were set up. The sunroom at the front was sunny and bright with proper cloth napkins - always the sign of a good restaurant - and was the most formal space for dining. Apart from the dining options there was a lounge area in the centre with comfortable couches and chairs with coffee tables, cards and drafts available to play before or after dining. We even sat at our table by the pool table one night and played a few hands of cards while waiting for our meal. Not many places where you could feel at home enough to do that! We would heartily recommend the Hotel as the best place we have ever stayed for both the quality of food, rooms and the friendliest staff you could ever wish to find. If you're ever looking to stay in the Yorkshire Moors this is the place to be!
From the moment we arrived we fell in love with the place. Staff were very warm friendly and very helpful especially Nicola and Jack where nothing was to much to help. The room was fantastic, clean tidy and very cosy. The meals were amazing the breakfast was very tasty with an amazing view. Prices were very reasonable and would highly recommend to anyone, not far from Whitby and a must is the walk to the waterfalls. Would we go again? 100% yes can't wait to revisit. Thank you all at the inn on the moor.
